I recently met with an ePortfolio peer mentor, Cami, and made some accessibility changes to my page. We looked over my current Wix page and went over the layout I had set up for it last year in 2023 for my other class, COMM260. Cami was pleasantly surprised with the initial style I had applied to my ePortfolio and noted that it was one of the stronger ones she had seen. I asked her if she thought I needed any aesthetic changes, but she said the main thing we should focus on was greater accessibility, and I agreed. Cami pointed out that my font sizing was very small and light and could be difficult for some to read, so I brought the sizing up a few points and turned my sea blue to a darker navy blue. She also made me realize that my page was slightly broken up, as I had several sections put together in a way where you could scroll to access them. However, my course projects section was not a part of this, so we anchored that page to the main format. Additionally, I had forgotten to make a short cut for my “expertise” section in the upper left corner of the screen, so I created a tab for that as well. On the note of accessibility, I asked Cami if there was a way I could create an audio option for my ePortfolio text to be read aloud, however, she said their office had not learned how to do that. She appreciated my suggestion of this accommodation and said she’d love to bring it up to her boss as an option for the future. Overall, I am happy I chose to meet with Cami and improve the functionality and accessibility of my ePortfolio!
